“Christianity is not just about going to church. It’s a way of seeing and understanding the world around us that should affect everything we do. In other words, Christianity is both a lifestyle and a worldview.”
-Justin Giboney
Wisdom in the Bible can be complicated.
It means the Good Life but how does one live that way in our world.
For the Hebrew Writers of the Book of Proverbs, wisdom is more than the acquisition of knowledge, it is thought of as an attribute of God Himself and a creative force woven into the fabric of reality. This means, that for the Biblical authors, wisdom means bringing every area of one’s life into alignment with God and the unwise is the opposite.
God’s character is one of compassion, grace, slow to anger, abounding in love, faithfulness, and justice (Exodus 34). So aligning one’s life to that character is an utterly ennobling pursuit. Tim Mackie helpfully explains that “true wisdom is learning to live within these boundary lines and not crossing them.” That is the spiritual journey we are invited on as we explore the Book of Proverbs.
In this series, we will seek to soak in this book of wisdom. To slow down this summer and meditate on its musing about sex, relationships, work, generosity, integrity, justice, spirituality, and more.
