Throughout history, humanity has asked what it means to be free. Is it to hold control? To live free from restraint? To hold complete autonomy? Yet, time and time again we see differences between being set free and living in that freedom. Maybe a better question to ask is how does God expect us to live as a free people?
The Exodus from Egypt occurs in every human being, in every era, in every year, and in every day. - Nachman of Breslove (Rabbi)
Freedom is the central narrative in the book of Exodus. For this reason alone, some claim Exodus to be an essential book of the Bible. Throughout we see complex dynamics play out and the genuine struggles of an oppressed nation learning how to be and live free. It is a powerful picture in which we are extended an invitation to trust Yahweh, as we watch him save and guide a lost and wandering people.
We can relate to Exodus. We’ve all been there. We’ve all questioned God’s character. We’ve all wondered who God helps and why. We’ve all faced the challenge of waiting for clarity. In our journey of freedom we can often be left asking – Is this what it means to live free?
This series explores Exodus - a story of liberation, transformation and community – seeking to be formed into people who live into the freedom that God offers.
