“Does my life really matter?” is one of life’s ultimate questions. All of humanity has asked this question at some point in their life. In the rat race of our existence, it can be a driving and debilitating query/ Isolating in its weight and yet, shared in its sentiment. We want our lives to have meaning.
Throughout the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus meets his followers in their deepest questions and longings. Held within Matthew’s pages is an invitation to a new way, so much so that early believers were simply called “Followers of the Way”.For them a definition of what mattered, was to be different from the rest.
“Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.” Matthew 10:39
Jesus offers a life of calling and purpose for His followers then, and for His followers now. Miracles, metaphors, and mission are at the heart of these chapters. So let’s continue on this pilgrimage through Matthew, and really pause to consider the question - does my life matter?
