Water baptism is an important milestone, a step of obedience, and a public declaration that you are a follower of Jesus Christ.

Baptism is a visible representation of identifying with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. It is an outward response of an inward decision! A believer is put under the water, which symbolizes dying to an old way of life. They are then brought up out of the water, symbolizing them resurrecting to a new way of life — lived for Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit.

We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. - Romans 6:4
