But you will receive power and ability when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be My witnesses [to tell people about Me] both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 1:8 (AMP)

When you think of God what comes to mind? The Father running to hold his prodigal son? Jesus nailed to the cross? God walking through Eden in the beginning? We learn through scripture that there is one God and that this one God eternally exists as three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

If we are not careful, the Holy Spirit can easily be mentioned only in passing and that is farthest thing from what Jesus intended. He tells his disciples that he is sending someone better. Seems like an odd thing to say with all we know about Jesus, but if we believe He is telling the truth then the Holy Spirit needs our full attention.

The Acts of the Apostles outlines the founding of the church. It documents the spread of it, the challenges faced, the pressures from society and its explosive growth. We see incredible sacrifice from those who were part of it. And in all of it, we see the Holy Spirit at work sparking a world altering movement. This is the same spirit that is at work in our world today. That spark, that power, that change is available to us. The Holy Spirit will be our focus and the Book of Acts our foreground over these next eight weeks. So we enter this series seeking the power of God in our present day praying that ancient prayer - come Holy Spirit.
